Now that you’ve made a great purchase of fresh Louisiana shrimp, you might want to put on a classic shrimp boil.
If you’re not accustomed to boiling fresh shrimp, consider this method.
NO SALT!
1. Most importantly, don’t add salt or anything that contains salt while the shrimp are boiling. First, season water with anything you like including liquid boil but don’t add salt or anything that contains salt (i.e., dump-n-boil).
Other ingredients for the seasoning include lemon juice, garlic powder, onion powder, vinegar, Siracha, Tabasco, onions, bell peppers, cayenne, black pepper, Italian seasoning, among many others left up to your imagination and taste.
2. Bring the seasoned water to a rolling boil. Add shrimp, and boil until shell begins to separate from back (1-3 minutes). Stop boiling at first sign of separation.
3. Remove from heat and cool, add a small amount of ice or water if you’d like. Then, add the salt or dump-n-boil. Soak as long as you want, taste and adjust seasoning. It’s the salt that makes it stick.
